Hawaii Cello Choir

The Hawaii Cello Choir (H.C.C.) is a mixed-ability ensemble from beginner to advanced level cellists to play together, develop ensemble skills, and advance their individual playing levels in a fun and relaxed environment.

The choir is suitable for both Suzuki and traditional cello students and cello enthusiasts who want to make music together in a non-competitive, supportive environment. All ages and ability levels are welcome with a minimum of 1-year playing experience. No audition is required, however, the students must be able to play on all 4 strings in the first position and extensions.

During our rehearsals, the emphasis will be placed on introducing orchestral performance techniques, developing musicianship, and reinforcing reading skills. The cello players will learn how to create a unified sound as a cello ensemble by blending diverse musical lines. Each cellist is given an equal voice in how the ensemble moves forward while learning and sharpening their ensemble skills.

The H.C.C will rehearse and perform pieces written and/or arranged for cello ensembles from 2 to 6 part harmony, in a variety of styles. This will allow the beginner and advanced students to be able to play in the same pieces.

Taking private lessons is encouraged for cello students in this class, but is not required.
